It being a Friday night I am of course sitting at home at my computer playing on the Internet. Where else would I be? More correctly I have been playing with my website. Have been trying to add more content and stuff in the last few weeks. At this point I have all the links on the navigation bar actually working and now have frame sets for the main page and said navigation bar. I have also been playing around with finding new and different perl scripts to play with. I don’t know a lot of perl programming yet but I can manage to get most of the stuff I download up and running on my site, so that’s not half bad. Tonight’s adventure was with surveysays.cgi. You can check it out on my main page and vote if you like. It’s a small script that lets you make your own web poll and allow others to vote on it and see the results. It’s a nice, simple script and works pretty well. I got it to load into a small popup window off of the main page with a few lines of java I striped from the web cam page I use, which I lifted from Jenn’s site. Only major problem I had was that if you wanted to view the results before you voted it would load my main page in the little window for some reason. Well after some poking and some running up and down stairs (to look at it on the computer downstairs) I finally figured out what was wrong, and I’m quite proud of my self if I do say so my self. Turns out the code used a environmental variable “$ENV{HTTP_REFERER}” to make the link. So instead of linking to where the code and pages actually were stored “/survey/index.shtml” it linked to what it thought was the page where the code was but was really just the page that the popup window came from. Basically it looks like they didn’t count on someone wanting to pop up the poll in a new window, but rather just display it on its own page. Well to try and keep this story from getting much longer once I realized this I was able to hack the perl code some and just took out the environmental variable and hard coded the address of the survey pages. And all was well, at least as far as I know. Because the script records your IP and drops a cookie on your hard drive when you vote (don’t worry its nothing bad, just used to keep a person from voting more then once). Only problem with that is that it can make it a bitch to test on my computer after I have voted once. So if yah do try it out and vote let me know if anything goes wrong or you get any errors or anything.
Wow…this is not only the longest journal entry I think I’ve ever done, but probably the most writing I’ve done in months! That being said I shall go for now. I hope all 3 of the people who read my journal have enjoyed this pointless and long story about my Friday night in front of the computer.
Ps. This post is now longer, in number of lines, then the perl script was that I was bitching. Hehehe.
some things »« Frozen Embryos…this song is my god….
You have to check out 365 Days Project it is a web log where each day they put up a new mp3. But these are no normal songs, they find the strangest, most obscure, or just plane odd songs and recordings. Just this evening ive been rocking out to “Frozen Embryos”, “Understanding Marx”, “I wonder who my daddy is”, as well as a bunch of other really odd songs. At some point soon I will be putting some of my more fav. songs in the Code section of my site. But till then go and visit this web site!
Yay me! »« Glass is always half full….
So some time back I had decided to copyright the design I did for the FSCC t-shirt. It seemed that so many people liked the design that I decided I not only wanted “official recognition” for it from the good old government, but that if in the future I wanted to do something more with the design I could. Well that day has come….maybe. I’m in talks with Silver Screen Design, who are the same people we used for the FSCC t-shirts. They still have the silkscreen on file so it would cost way less with them then anyone else who would have to make a new screen for me. Right now I’m looking at this design and color scheme: {{popup tshirt.jpg tshirt 500×500}}t-shirt
I like the white on black. It’s simple and stands out well, not to say the original blue and white we used for the club wasn’t bad, I just like black better my self. Anyway to start I’m asking them for a quote for 25 shirts: 15XL-5L-3M-2S and if the price is something I can manage at the moment I will likely have them made up. The plan is to try and sell them, be it on e-bay or my own site and try and actually make some money on the deal, less a free sample or two for select friends and such.
Anyway if anyone reads this take a look and let me know if you would be interested in such a shirt, and I will keep you apprised as to the status of this little project.
Glass is always half full…. »« Happiness is a clean room.
Well I have reached that point. The point where I am so bored that I have resorted to cleaning my room to give me something to do. Well that and it was a big mess. Things are a bit more manageable now, as in I can walk across my floor. But I have realized that I own a hell of a lot of books. And after trips to the book barn and the buck a book sale I now have even more. But oh well. On the plus side I got my paycheck from Omar today so I’m 120$ richer, well sort of. Seeing as these checks will be few and far between I ought to save like all of it to pay bills next month but we will see. Speaking of Omar I’m going to work there again Tuesday doing more specials driving and what not so woo hoo. A vague type of employment. In the mean time I may try and sell some stuff on ebay. I got some old stamps from my grandmother (She worked at good will so its not like they are family heirlooms or anything.) And while I collect coins and paper money I could care less about stamps so I’ll take just about anything I can get for them just to get some quick cash. I also got some Harry Potter movie trailers from when I worked at the movies so may try and sell some 35mm film cells with some promotional cards to make a quick few bucks too. We shall see.
