Just a little update. I found out today that I don’t have to go to court Thursday. WOO HOO! As interesting as it would be to go to court, and I am sure I will at some point is am equally as glad that it wont be this week. That said today at the lab was just a little nuts. I only got two cases but both were due today and one of them was a large number of baggies of marihuana (more then 75 bags) luckily I only had to test less then half of them, but it still took a long time. Still I managed to finish everything up in time and still get to eat my lunch (I get grumpy when I don’t eat, as evidenced by me almost kicking my computer across the lab)
Tomorrow ought to be a bit better, plus I get to take a break to give blood. I am more then glad to bleed for them if it means I get to lounge around for a half hour or so and eat cookies. Plus I get free stuff like theater tickets so it’s really a win-win situation.
What’s Wrong »« I got a tree!
Thanksgiving went well, turkey and all the food came out good. It was….interesting to have the whole family here at my appt. but we all survived and food was enjoyed by all.
Today was grey and very wet! Still because I had to spend all day at work yesterday I *HAD* to use today to do fun things like shopping and laundry. Whee! Though on the plus side I did get my self an x-mass tree today, see:

Sure it’s a fake tree and as of yet still needs some ornaments but I think it works well in my apartment.
Well I am off to be lazy, tomorrow it’s back to work, which could be a busy week. What with maybe going to court this Thursday and everything.

So my web host finally has logs available for my site. Now I can see how people get to my site, what they look at, and things like that. Well looking at the logs today I saw a hit from some web journal site, I didn’t recognize the name so I check it out. When I loaded the page “The Raven” mp3 I have a copy of starts playing (which in it self is annoying in that said site had no stop button) so I take a look at the source code for the page and low-and-behold they were directly linking to the file on my site. So when ever anyone visits their journal the file is loaded on my server and played. I care because that uses up bandwidth which I happen to have to pay for. It is also VERY bad form/borders on theft. Jenn recommended the same thing I was thinking which was to replace the file with something not so nice and give it the same name. I guess I am just too nice because while it was quite tempting I opted to be nice for some reason and just put a .htaccess file in the dir where the mp3 was which should prevent future hotlinking (same trick I use to protect my pictures). So I guess I owe my web hosts thanks, with out logs I never would of known a goth girl in Finland was stealing my bandwidth. Only on the internets….
On a totally unrelated note tomorrow is Thanksgiving! W00T for turkey. I think I have everything all set to cook and host my first ever thanksgiving dinner. My family is driving up from CT to do dinner here in NY this year so I get to cook! I made the cranberry sauce tonight and I must say it came out good. Now just as long as I can pull off the turkey tomorrow I will be all set, so wish me luck!
I got a tree! »« On alert!
Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. I got my first court notification today! Woo Hoo! It’s in Manhattan and not until early December. This doesn’t mean that I will actually have to go though. They will tell me a day or two before I am due to appear if I still have to go or not. A lot can happen before then and most cases are plead out before they go to trial so I probably wont have to go. But if I do I am ready, I have had my suit in my locker at work sense Alison got called to court on about 2 hours notice. Never hurts to be ready, plus judges prefer a suit and tie to my “Geek” t-shirt I am sure.
Of Theft and Turkey »« Whee for turkeys
A fun week of playing with drugs is over and tomorrow another one begins. The exception being that Thursday, instead of drugs, I get to play with Turkey. That’s right, I will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year here at my apartment. I think I mentioned it before but because of my work schedule (having to work Friday and Saturday) going home for turkeyday would of been a pain in the ass so turkeyday will come to NYC. I just went shopping today and got a turkey and an assortment of things to go with said turkey. My family is bringing some stuff too (Chelsea promises to pilfer wine and muffins from her work) and Mom will bring vege. stuff for her and Chelsea who don’t eat meat. Which is fine with me, more turkey for me!
I think I have everything all set for said dinner, it will be by far the most ambitious thing I have ever cooked but I am quite handy in the kitchen so it shouldn’t be too hard. Though for some reason my former supervisor at work, Tom, found it quite funny that I would be doing all the cooking. How bad can it be? Cooking is just like Chemistry. Mix some things, heat them up, and yah get new things. Heck this is even easier because there is less a chance I’ll blow my self up in the process. Note I said “less a chance” and not “no chance”, working in a lab I have found a large number of seeming innocent things that can try and explode of mame you and I am sure the kitchen isn’t much safer
Speaking of work this past week was good. No Uber exciting cases but nothing too bad either. Friday was fun, cut out two hours early so I could go out for drinks and dinner with some people from my training class and the new one.
Did a bunch of overtime too this past week, which is nice with the Holidays coming up. Not that I have any idea what to get anyone for x-mass. If I don’t think of anything soon there will be a lot of gift cards under the tree
This weekend was just a rest and clean weekend (plus I spent most of my fun money at the bar
) but that’s ok. This up-coming week should be busy so I am enjoying doing nothing….while I still can.

Whee for turkeys »« Yay for blood!
So with Meg coming to visit in December I finally decided to cash in my free Broadway tickets I won for giving blood at work and take her to a show. Originally I wanted to take her to Avenue Q but they couldn’t get tickets for when she would be here for that so I had to have them try for something else. I asked ‘the girl’ and she said she wouldn’t mind seeing Phantom of the Opera. So I called back today and told them, and after I got home tonight the woman called me back and said that she was able to get me tickets. But then she tells me where we will be sitting…6th row orchestra! I was a tad blown away, we are talking like 200$ worth of tickets just for a pint of my blood. I never new it was so valuable. Too bad I can’t like sell it on ebay or something eh? hehehe.
Anyway, work was fine today, the war against drugs marches ever on. Though nothing too interesting case wise today sadly. It seems that the 7 and 8 am people get all the interesting cases and they end up having nothing left for us 10 am folk but marihuana and crackpipes. Oh well, I guess I should be glad not to be getting cases where I have to analyze 100+ baggies of something or another.
Finally, I have tried yet another Spam stopping trick in my blog comments. I have been getting a bunch of comment spam this past weekend so had to try something new. Hopefully it will help some. As usual if yah try and comment and it doesn’t work drop me an email and let me know.

No posts for the last week or so because there really hasn’t been anything post worthy. Worked all last week, including going in on Veterans day and having to work on Saturday all day. Whee! No real interesting cases last week or so either, just a lot of crack/crack pipes and the usual fun stuff. This week will probably be similar, though Friday night a bunch of us from the training class are suposed to get together and hit some bar. I have to find out where it is and how to get there before I decide for sure if I’m going to go or not.
Yay for blood! »« “Ghosts stop barn demolition” or “Why America will never be as cool at the rest of the world”
Just a little re-cap in case the link to the article goes bad. Apparently there is a man who owns a old, delapated barn in the Norwegian city of Tromsø.
["Local officials had called the dilapidated building a hazard and ordered it to be torn down." Its owner protested, claiming that he didn't dare go near the barn himself. "Many years ago, I removed its roof," he wrote in a letter to the building officials. "The result was that I had several encounters with the underworld. And I fell gravely ill."There are underworld creatures living in that barn," the man wrote. "My entire family knows about this."]
Now if this happened here in the USA you can guess what would happen. They would lock the old man up for being crazy and then probably take him to court to make him tare down the barn. What did the Tromsø building officials do? Told the man that while they would like to see the structure made safe they wouldn’t make him tare it down.
“Sometimes we just have to accept that there’s more between heaven and earth than between the files and rules in the township’s building code,” Tromsø building chief Hallvard Thon told local newspaper Tromsø.
Forget Canada I want to move to Norway now! They rock!
On non-ghost related matters work was alright today, had five cases so I kept busy for most of the day. Nothing very exciting, some cocaine, marihuana, and a few crack pipes. Whee! This week is going to be a long one, not only did I agree to work veterans day which we normally have off but this Saturday is my first overtime pick day. Whee for overtime…or something like that. What makes it worth while is that I can use the money for when the girl comes to visit in December!
W00T!
