Thanks Chelsea!

Just have to say thanks to my sister Chelsea who sent me some great mints in the mail today. But these are no ordinary mints, well I guess the mints them selves are, but the tin they come in is whats special. Have a look:

mints

great no? You can’t really read it in the picture but along the top of the can is a quote/tagline “MY TONGUE TASTES LIKE BURNING”. Good stuff!

On work related stuff, work has been slow for the most part this week. Got pulled into a project to compile some data for one of the lab big wigs, its boring but a break from case work is alright I suppose.
This past Wednesday at like 1:45 pm I get a call saying that they want me for court in Manhattan for 3:00 pm. Nice notice. So I run and change, and hop on the ever lovely J train, and head into the city. I get about 4 stops away from the court when the lab calls to tell me the case has been dismissed and that I should turn around and come back. So in effect I spent an hour and 45 minutes on the subway to go nowhere. Fun is!

Speaking of the subway, mixed in with the adds and such they have some panels of “poetry in motion” or something cheesy like that, where they have snippets of some famous poem or something. In the past they have had stuff by Dickenson and Yeats and today I noticed a new one which was from Macbeth Act V Scene V, the famous “To-morrow” soliloquy. The thing is neither that, nor the Yeats poem are very cheery examples, and don’t get me started on Dickinson. She’s not exactly know for sunshine and rainbows her self. :) While I applaud the effort to educate and enlighten the masses, I don’t think poems about death and the like are really best suited for an audience speeding along in a dirty, long, metal tube below the streets of NYC. All I’m saying is the subway is bad enough, we don’t need to be MORE DEPRESSED on our daily commute thank you very much.

Episode III Goodness

So even though I said I was going to wait a few weeks, I went to see Star Wars Episode III on Saturday. The thing is it was totally unplanned. I went for a walk down Myrtle to do a little shopping and the like. Down at the far end there is the little Forest movie theater, I think it only has like 3 or 4 screens and is well…a tad run down. It’s obviously a old converted theater where they split 2 big screens into 4 smaller ones. So yah to put it lightly the place is a dump, but a cheep one that was amazingly playing Star Wars. So on a whim, and for 5$, I waited in line for 20 min till they opened and went to see me some Star Wars.

I thought the movie it self was really good. I would definitely have to agree that it’s the best of the new three, which wouldn’t take much really but still. I could write a little review or something but why bother, there are about a zillion of em on line and I’m lazy so I’ll just say go see the movie if you like Star Wars, if not then…um…don’t I guess.

Today is the usual crap, shopping and laundry, plus a good deal of cleaning because this place is starting to get cluttered. Though there will also be a good deal of laziness because I have to work next Saturday so I better get as much lazy in as I can now!

Quite the life I live I know :)

W00T!

W00T! After a 8 days I finally have my cable and Internet back. Too them long enough damn it but I’m just glad its back working and working fine. So yay for that! Of course there is nothing on tv tonight to watch but we all knew that anyway.

The other blog worthy news of the day is I testified again. This time it was in the Bronx, just a few blocks away from the evil yankee stadium. I got into work at 10 and was told at like 1015…and was changed into my suit and on the subway by 1030. Such is the life of a criminalist. Court it self was quick. When I got there I saw another Co-worker who was testifying in the same case, why we didn’t know that this morning and go in together we don’t know but anyway. I waited while she went in and 5 minutes later she came back out and it was my turn. I went in and the same thing, was done and out in like 5 minutes. Just what did you do and what did you get. The only funny type question was “If a sample has no cocaine in it and it sits in the envelope for a few years could it then turn into cocaine?”

……um…….no.

grrr….

Cable/Internet still broken. It’s been a week now. Grrrr. Still trying to get it all sorted out. I guess they came today but no one was home, duh! and the sign that was supposed to be on the door for them to ring the supers appt. wasn’t there. Sigh. So I have to wait at least till tomorrow but my landlord seemed to think that wouldn’t work either so who knows! :(

So Wednesday a big branch fell in front of my building and severed the cable wires so I have had no cable TV or Internet. (I am at work right now). I also have no idea when it will be fixed. Time warner is always oh so useful when it comes to getting stuff fixed, all the guy on the phone told me was 24-72 hours. Joy! So hopefully it will be fixed when I get home tonight, if not I may be facing a rainy weekend with no cable or Internet! Eek! I know! :) If not for my DVD collection (maybe a star wars and/or godfather marathon) I might go insane, just have to wait and see. So wish me luck but if you don’t see me around for a few days you will know why!

Had a little problem with some people pilfering my forensic science wallpaper to use on their sites. Again I don’t care if they COPY it and HOST IT ON THEIR OWN SERVER…but to just hotlink it off of my site is not very nice. Well thanks to my little .htaccess file and a creative use of google image search I think I have this problem solved for now! :)

another post-vacation post

Well I am back from my little trip to Hartford. Ended up doing way to much shopping (got everything from candles to books to a spice rack to a bunch of near expired couscous to a commie t-shirt from target). There is a bunch of other little things in there too but as you can see its quite an odd assortment. I also ended up taking an un-expected trip to Mystic, CT with Valerie to see the fishes and check out the shops. It was nice going this time of year because during the week both the aquarium and the shops were really empty (Well the aquarium had a number of school children but it wasn’t too bad). I got back to NY with my booty of consumer items around 12 on Saturday and spent most of the day putting stuff away and a little cleaning. Well that and I did some “gardening” out behind my appt. There is a little brick patio area that I got a lawn chair for so I could sit out there in the summer when it is nice, but it was scary-overgrown with weeds and snails. So I took it on my self to tidy it up a bit. And thus ended my work for the weekend. Today was just the usual shopping and laundry and then being a lazy slug in anticipation of a full week of fun-fun work!

Oh and before I forget for Mom happy Mother’s Day/Birthday and Ben Happy Graduation….now get a job!

home for a week

Well I am on vacation visiting the ever lovely Hartford,CT. It’s nice just not to be at work! No major plans this week, some shopping, maybe visit a few people, and just relaxing. I already got most of the stuff I wanted to buy while I was home this trip actually, a few new shirts for work (including a cool CCCP commie t-shirt from Target of all places) as well as some new books from the always fun Book Barn in Niantic.

On a totally un-related note this is a cool story out of MIT: The Time Traveler Convention The idea is “PUBLICIZE the event so that future time travelers will know about the convention and attend.” To that end they want people to :

“Write the details down on a piece of acid-free paper, and slip them into obscure books in academic libraries! Carve them into a clay tablet! If you write for a newspaper, insert a few details about the convention! Tell your friends, so that word of the convention will be preserved in our oral history!”

Its a cute idea, I wonder if it will work :)
