Ouch…

On my way home from work I wait for the Bus in front of this gas station and I couldn’t help but notice that they (like everyone else I guess) raised their prices. Now for cash they range $3.15-3.35 a gallon. That sorta makes riding the subway/bus suck a little less I guess…well at least till no one can afford gas anymore so they ALL start riding the subway making it even more crowded and late then normal. But for now I can enjoy laughing at all the commuters filling their tanks (I laugh especially hard at those in the HUGE SUV’s as they spend 70$ to fill their tank….hehe)

Not much else of note last few days. Work has been work. Haven’t really been posting much about it because there isn’t much worth posting. Just the usual stuff, nothing really exotic or interesting. I did get made the instrument monitor on my floor so I have to keep an eye on the FTIR’s and the Polarimeter. But it’s not as glamorous a job as it sounds. Mostly involves making stuff stuff it working right and files are saved in the right places with the right names. Still it’s something I suppose. Right now I am just living till Friday for I shall have a nice 3 day weekend of sloth and gluttony (2 out of the 7 deadly sins isn’t bad weekend in my book….sure I’d prefer to add lust in their but with teh_girl down in Florida that ain’t going to happen…sigh)

Anyway….2 days….just 2 more days…..

cleaning

Just spent the last hour or so in an uncharacteristic cleaning fit. Things were getting a little too cluttered for my taste so I started straightening some stuff up and it just sort of snowballed from there. The major thing was that I took my old desktop (the one that wont turn on from yesterdays post) and packed it away in the closet, cleaning off the desk for the first time since I move in here (and leaving more bare desk surface then the desk has seen in a many a year). I did leave some stuff there, like the printer and speakers, the hope is I can keep the surface clutter free enough to be able to plop my laptop there when I need to print or do some serious work. We’ll see how long that lasts. I did manage to get my PDA set up on this new computer but the scanner is a lost cause (Visoneer decided not to make Mac drivers) so foo on them. I’ll have to see if my family wants it or something.

Rest of today is gona be sorta low key. Got to go food shopping and really ought to vacuum the rug too at some point. Exciting life I lead I know.

Good timing I guess

So in all the excitement of Meg visiting I forgot to mention that I guess buying my computer when I did was good timing. While Meg was here last week she wanted to write some of her “fan fiction” (which still scares me to a point but she enjoys it so hey) anyway, thinking she might work better at a regular computer/keyboard I offer to let her use my old desktop (Also so I could use the laptop at the same time) but when I go to press the power button nothing happens. Totally dead! It had worked the week before with no problems but now nothing. I have no idea what happened or why I wont even power up, my initial theory is the power supply went bad some how (in the span of 5 days turned off?), Jen thinks it’s just that the computer is jealous of the new laptop! Either way it’s pretty much dead so I am glad I got my nice little laptop when I did (well ok, maybe I wish I had gotten it those 4 days latter when they upgraded them but still you get my point). Luckily I got everything off the old one that I wanted to keep already so it’s not really any big loss. I will probably poke around inside it some when I have time some day and see if I can bring it back to life just out of principle. I also have the old, old gateway still so I may take the power supply from it (Assuming they are compatible) and try seeing if that will help. Ahh the life of a geek eh?

Not much else of interest going on as of late really, I am at work right now. Saturday overtime and all. Luckily for me it is slow today. Saturdays here typically are either nice and slow or real killers so I will take slow any day!

zoo today!

Well today we made it to the zoo and it was the perfect day for it too! We had great weather and getting there on the subway was actually easy for a change. This was Meg’s first visit to the Bronx Zoo and she enjoyed her self greatly! We got to see everything from Monkeys to Penguins and got pictures of most everything too. Those will be up in a week or so (I’m too tired and lazy to do it now :) ) but for now here’s a cute picture of Meg and I taken next to a giant fake termite mound (thanks to the random tourist lady who offered to take the picture for us:

Andrew and Meg at the Zoo

For the rest of the night we are just going to take it easy, both of us really tired from walking around all day, Meg’s almost asleep on the futon! No idea what we will do tomorrow, maybe a small shopping trip down at Union Square or something similar. But now it’s time for Simpsons and Food!

Well since someone (not me) couldn’t get out of bed at a reasonable hour this morning we are postponing the zoo trip till tomorrow. Which after traveling all day yesterday and having a busy weekend and all is alright. So for today we will just be doing random stuff around here and try for the zoo tomorrow.

back home…

Back in NYC again after a few days visiting the family in CT. Meg and I took the train into CT on Sunday and met up with Val for a quick snack trip at the cold stone creamery. Then Mom picked us up and took us back to my old home in Hartford. It’s still nuts, with pets and people and stuff. Sunday night we went to see The Island….all I can say is I am glad it was free but I knew that going into is so…

Monday Me, Meg, and my Parents took a trip up to Salem,MA. We did all the required tourist stuff: The Witch Museum with its cheesy 1960s era presentation, little shops with over priced tourist stuff, and other fun things. We also went to see “Cry Innocent” which is a live play type thing of the witch trials where the actors read from the actual transcripts from the 1690′s trials and you get to take part and question witnesses and then decide if the accused woman should stand trial for being a witch or be set free. It was a really fun day! That night we ran out to the mall and got “Firefly” on DVD which we watched some of on the train ride home. Which is really all we did so far today, travel back from CT to NYC. Now that we finally made it home tonight will be Firefly DVD’s and chinese food. MMMM…..

Pictures will be added some time in the near future….

Tomorrow is planned for a zoo trip! Woo!

Vacation time…

Well not quite yet…little under 6 hours to go before I am officially on vacation but you get the idea. While my body is still at work my mind has been on vacation for a few days now already! Today I am just finishing up a few small cases I got and making sure as much of the paperwork and stuff is done as possible before I leave. Meg’s flight is due in around 7:10 pm or so, which works out nice because I can just go right to JFK after work (the air train stops right down the street from here). We will probably take a cab back to my place because being Friday night, SG1 and Atlantis is on Sci-Fi so the sooner we get home the better! Yah we are such geeks but that’s why we get along so well.

Anyway….expect sporadic updates over the next week. We have some nice trips planned, the zoo, Salem, MA, and the like so hopefully there will be pictures up at some point too.

For now I guess I should get back to work….or something like that….

Too short weekend

Posted on August 7th, 2005 by Captain Science.

Yah this weekend was much too short! Worked yesterday which was alright. Slow enough not to be too bad yet busy enough so I wasn’t looking at the clock every 5 minutes. Plus there was doughnuts and Cake for Melissa’s Birthday. So that was a plus too! I also have to give a big thanks to Jason and Amanda for taking pity on me while I was waiting for the bus and offering me a ride home. I had been waiting a good 20 minutes for the damn Q56 which was really my only choice since the J train hasn’t been running weekends into Jamaica for about 2 months now. So yah thanks!

Today the plan had been a quick trip down Myrtle ave. to run a errand or two (and pick up a bottle of wine or two for teh girls visit). Well unknown to me there was this MASSIVE street fair thing going on. With food venders and hundreds of booths and tables of people selling everything from clothing to CD’s to plants to pets (crabs, fish, and turtles which I felt really bad about but anyway). So needless to say it was nuts but sorta fun to walk around at and check out some of the stuff. What really cracked me up was since they had closed about a mile or two of the avenue there were a few dozen cops around but right in the middle of the thing out in the open was a guy with a table selling pirate DVD’s. And like REALLY pirate ones, had the Dukes of Hazard which came out Friday (and wouldn’t be worth even the 5$ he was charging from what I hear) . I just found it funny how little the cops cared. I mean now people wont pay to see the movie and poor Jessica Simpson wont get her fair share of the box office take and will probably end up living in a shack eating cat food or something.

For shame….for shame…..
