Bugs under glass
So they opened a new 0.99c store on the corner a few streets down from me so I stopped by there yesterday to check it out. Has most of the usual stuff one would expect in a 0.99c store of the type – random house goods, cheep kids toys, scary personal care items (like Crest toothpaste where the packaging is totally in chinese), and cheep decorative items. Well seeing as I am always up for finding something cheep to add to my apartment’s decor I made a point to check out the decorative goods isle. Mostly the usual nick-nacks though there were a few little Buddha statues that were nice but nothing that really caught my eye until I saw what is perhaps the strangest thing I have ever come across. Imagine a picture frame, say 8X10 and inside glued to the back are two dried and mounted butterflies with their scientific names printed below them on little labels. No in and of it self thats not too strange. Some people like dead bugs under glass to decorate their living rooms. What made this different was that the smaller of the two butterflies on the left hand side was some how attached to an electric clock motor on the back of the frame and when you put a batter in the said butterfly would rotate with the ticking of the clock motor (as if it were attached to the second hand). Now mind you this isn’t a clock, there are no hands or numbers…just a rotating dead butterfly under glass. I swear I almost bought it, it was only $4.99, just because it was so strange. I still might at some point if they still have them in a week or two, I think it would make a great Christmas gift this year for everyone I know! I mean who wouldn’t want to find a dead rotating bug under glass under the tree Christmas morning?
