BREST, France (AFP) – French police who spent two years trying to identify a woman who was murdered by a blow to the head were relieved to discover the reason their efforts were failing: the woman died half a millennium ago.
ADVERTISEMENTThe skeleton of a woman in her 30s was found during an exceptionally low tide in December 2003 near the seaside Brittany town of Plouezoc’h. A long gash in the skull convinced investigators she was killed with a hatchet or other sharp implement.Police ploughed through missing persons’ files to no avail. A theory that the woman was the wife of a Normandy doctor who disappeared with his family in a famous 1999 case was dismissed after DNA tests.
Eventually radiocarbon dating established that the death had occurred between 1401 and 1453.
“We are satisfied because at least we know the date now. We reckon it was pirates,” said Francois Gerthosser of the Plourin-les-Morlaix police on Tuesday.

Nice day off
Took today off. Been working a lot of OT the last two weeks and figured I needed a break. Went into the city and did a little shopping. Had a book store gift card to use up (got a classic scifi “Lord of Light” by Zelazny, and a nifty sounding book about the history of pirates “Under the Black Flag“). Also picked up a few DVD’s I have been wanting (Family Guy Volume 3 and The Adventures of Pete and Pete season 2). Also just wandered around a bit enjoying the really nice weather we had today, it reached 60° here today! Hello global warming!
Work actually called while I was in the city, guess it was a wee bit busy there today so they were looking for extra volunteers to come in Saturday. I declined, I’m working next Saturday so I really didn’t want to come in this one.
On an unrelated note I used my ITunes Christmas gift card to download two albums by “The Brobdingnagian Bards” They are great. They are a bit like “They Might Be Giants” if They Might Be Giants were Irish and went to a lot of Renaissance Faires. Good Stuff!

Seems that my appt. is along the bad weather flight path for JFK. Every time there are low clouds or fog, it sounds like the planes are about 5 feet above my head. Thats a fun way to wake up in the morning

Tired…
Tired today. Weekend was nice but not long enough. Like a fool I said I would come into work today for OT (we normally have the day off for MLK day). Yah…that was a mistake. I can’t go into details (and trust me you wouldn’t want me to), but let’s just leave it at “biohazard case”. Sigh!

Slowness…
Looking back at my archives this just seems to be a slow time of year. No real posts because…well again nothing really worth posting about as of late. Just the usual work and stuff. You may of noticed the near daily changes in the look of the page, I am still trying to find something that I like and that looks good. I will probably end with something like what is up there now but with a custom graphic header and color scheme. I just haven’t had time to really work on anything this past week. Next week is along weekend because of MLK day so hopefully I can work on something then.
Was supposed to go to this DEA training class in February but they weren’t able to get it set up or something for then so I had to give them alternate dates, so my new first choice is a week in July. Sorta an extra bit of summer vacation I figure.
As for current events I worked today and have the usual errands to do tomorrow. Weekend’s just aren’t long enough!

Colors…
Went back to the default colors on here for a bit. The red and black colors looked a lot better on Safari then they did on Firefox or IE.
