Thanksgiving in CT was a good time. We headed up there Wednesday after I got out of work (they let us out at 2) with a short stop off in New Haven to have dinner with Valerie.

Thursday, aka Turkey day, we helped my mom make some of the dinner fixings and then went off to see “Casino Royale” while the turkey was cooking. Movie was really good, one of the best Bond films in a long time. Then it was Turkey time. We ate our selves silly and then Meg got her wish and was able to fit in a little nap before it was time for the pie. :)

Friday, Meg, mom and I went down to the Book Barn and got a whole bunch of books. We sort of though of it as an “Anti-Black Friday” activity, buying used book and all at a small family run place. While we were down near the shore we stopped at the beach (see pictures section for some picts) to walk around. Meg went crazy as usual looking for shells and sea glass. We also made a slight detour on the way home (well we sorta went the wrong way on 95) and stopped off in Mystic and hit a few little shops at Mystic village (Mmmm…fudge). Then Friday night Meg and I went to another movie, this time we saw “Happy Feet”. Um..well Meg really liked it so thats all that matters right? I mean I didn’t hate it but it wasn’t exactly my first choice of movies.

Saturday we ran some errands (oil change, car wash, grocery shopping) also stopped into Target and I was able to score a few flash drives 512mb for 9$. I really didn’t NEED two more of said drives but at that price, I also got a few for my Father to use for backups. We then packed up the car and headed back to NYC, traffic sucked on I-95 but was fine in NYC oddly enough.

Today we did a little cleaning, and put up our Christmas tree. Our first Christmas together in our apartment. Awww I know! :)

Tomorrow it’s back to work, sigh. But it wont be so bad, we are heading down to FL to visit Meg’s family in two weeks for an early christmas visit. So that will be nice.

Four days to turkey

In four days hence there shall be turkey! W00T! I found out on Friday that my request for next Friday off was approved so yay for 4 day weekend. The girl and I will be heading back to CT on Wednesday after work and likely be staying until Saturday (give us a day back here in NYC to relax and unpack).

Not much exciting this past week, usual work and what not. We ran out to the story yesterday to get some snacks and stuff to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. Also booked our tickets to FL, we are going down for an early Christmas visit to see Meg’s mom and grandparents. So that should be fun in a few weeks.

I also did end up totally switching over the photos on my website from manual html pages to a coppermine gallery. I think the layout is just as nice and it’s about a million times easier to add new photos then the old way of doing it all by hand.

Finally my Christmas list is up so for anyone looking for ideas take a look.

Finally back home, thank the Gods. That was a LONG car ride. Wouldn’t of been so bad if we hadn’t gotten stuck in traffic in MD for 2 hours.

Before I head to bed here are pictures from DC…

I am still playing around with the Coppermine software so some stuff may change in the next few weeks but odds are I will end up moving all my picture stuff to that gallery page.

Night.

From Washington,DC

Im posting from a hotel in Washington,DC. Meg’s mother is here this weekend for a work leadership conference and seeing as DC is only a few hours from NYC we drove down Friday and are spending the weekend.

The drive was alright, we left at 11am and didn’t get to the hotel here till almost 6:30 pm which is longer then it should of taken but you have to factor in it took an hour just to get out of NYC, we stopped for lunch on the NJ turnpike, hit super slow traffic for like all of Delaware, got stuck behind a accident on 95 here in Maryland and got to see a Medivac Helicopter land all of 500 feet in front of us on the highway, and then getting hopelessly lost trying to first find the street Meg’s mom’s hotel was on and then finding the hotel it self. So yeah you could say it was an eventful trip to say the least. But we finally made it.

Once we got here we went out with Meg’s mom up to this big mall about 15 minutes from the hotel. Had dinner at Macaroni Grill which had good food but out server was pretty bad. Wasn’t any bread ready when we got there it was still cooking, ok. But then when it was he brought it to two other tables who sat down after us, er ok. I guess he was just busy or covering too many tables but still. There were a few other little things (Meg ordered diet coke, got regular) and I got a cheese grater and cheese dropped on my back near the end there. So yeah. At least the food was good I suppose. After that we went to the movies and saw “Flushed Away” about cartoon Mice in the sewer. Not my first choice but it was funny so it was ok.

Don’t know for sure yet what we are doing today. Likely going to go into the Washington Mall area and see some of the sights and maybe a museum or two. This is my first time in DC so I am all about doing the cheesy tourist stuff (Washington Monument, Lincoln Monument, ect)

Anyway I guess I will go bother the girl who I am sure is wanting to check her mail on here.

Life Imitates Dilbert

So we had a party at work today to celebrate our bosses recent wedding. There was cake, soda, and other yummy snacks. Was a nice little party, too bad he wasn’t there. Thanks to a busy schedule and some odd and lame drama from other people he couldn’t make it…to his own party. It was a pity but the cake was really good. It really reminded some of us of a Dilbert cartoon. Though really, I think we should do it more often. We get all the perks of a party with cake with out needing a special event or needing to listen to someone thank all his/her co-workers when really all they want is to eat said cake.

Also today at work I did get a bit of good news. I found out I was one of the people selected to undergo the extra training in the Forensic Evidence section at the lab. Starting in a month or two I will be learning Explosives analysis (No I’m not going to be bomb squad). Then after that the tentative plan is for me to also learn Fire Debris Analysis, and Chemical Unknowns. There will be two other people coming from the drug section that will be doing the training with me, and two other who will be learning paint analysis. This is apparently really a big deal not only is it great to be learning a new discipline but we will be helping to make some changes to the section and be giving feedback on the training. So needless to say I am quite happy to be given the chance to learn Explosives analysis! I mean who doesn’t like explosives! :)

Tomorrow I get to go back to court. Whee! Was there Tuesday but after hanging around 4 hours the ADA called and decided he didn’t need me that day after all but that I would need to come back Thursday. Great…just great. Ah well, such is the life of a criminalist.
