“The Truth About Forensics”

From MSNBC…“The Truth About Forensics” the best part of the article is in the second part :

” …Which bring me to my next point: forensic science is well, science. I went to the session on “Bones, Bugs, Trace and More” and could only understand every third word. At a minimum, you need a biology or chemistry degree…”

and even better:

“…here just aren’t enough jobs for the hundreds of fresh faces graduating every year…”

Sad but very true.

For some reason I was inspired to make potato pancakes for dinner tonight. Haven’t had some in years. Recipe I found here worked out really well, though really they aren’t that complicated. Meg was a big fan of them too which was good because we are always looking for new dinner ideas

Quick update…

Just a quick update for now. Been a busy week at work so it’s nice to have the weekend to relax. The girl had another job interview Thursday which went well so we are both keeping our fingers crossed that it works out and turns into a job offer. Also just got word from Jenn that her and her boy will be coming for a visit in April so W00T for that!

Thats about it for now I guess…not in a writing mood, more a napping one so I’ll go be lazy now.

From a friends at work meeting: “I know with all this change and confusion people get angry. But that’s ok, that’s Teamwork!”

Seems I have a bit of a fan club. Always nice to know that the stuff I post is being read, I mean, I know have a small group of mostly friends and family who check out my posts but every now and then I get a semi-random person who visit’s and comments.

Friday this showed up in response to my Feb 2nd post :

“I think that as an NYPD employee it is a disgrace that you would mock something as symbolic as Sept. 11. I hope you are just too stupid to realize what you’re doing. What a dick”

I showed it to everone at work and they all though it was really funny too. Most all the people I work with seem to agree that it was obvious that my intent wasn’t to mock Sept 11 but rather to mock the Boston PD for somehow confusing a cartoon character made of LED’s for some terrorist weapons of mass destruction. Because we all now that the best way to hide a WMD in a major city would be to wire it up in public places with colorful lights.

I, and the people I showed on Friday, also though it was funny that someone felt strongly enough about something they read on the internet to leave a comment, and yet not strongly enough to even leave a name, instead choosing to post simply as “Anonymous”… well semi-anonymous in this case, as WordPress logs all IP addresses on comments and it doesn’t take a degree in Forensic Computer Investigation (which I have) to back-track an IP address via traceroute and whois to get a general idea of where a comment might be comming from. The results were interesting to say the least, but thats neither here nor there.

Still nice to know people are getting so much out of my semi-pointless rantings and random internet finds, and I promice to keep up the same level of quality that I know will keep my fans comming back for more.

Captain Science over and out!

Nifty new book

Thanks to a post on http://boingboing.net I picked up this book today:

“How to Cheat at Everything: A Con Man Reveals the Secrets of the Esoteric Trade of Cheating, Scams and Hustles” (Simon Lovell)

I’ve only read a few chapters so far but it’s already really interesting. I’ve always been interested in reading on a lot of the old Conns and how they worked and what not, no idea why really, just find the topic fascinating.

Never Forget…
