Baby boy born with twelve tiny fingers, twelve tiny toes
From the story:
“Jeshuah Fuller is just over 7 pounds, but in the eyes of his proud parents, he’s as mighty as Goliath. Like the biblical giant, Jeshuah was born with six fingers on each hand and six toes on both feet.”
“While Jeshuah is healthy, he will have his extra fingers and toes surgically removed in mid-September, Morris said.”
Both Jenn and I agree. Were that our kid he would keep them! Think not just of the natural typing advantage they would give but also the uniqueness factor. Who will you remember more after a job interview the guy with the MBA or the guy with 12 fingers? I know who *I* would hire!
I saw this sign on my way home from work. It is hand made in crayon and just too cute for words in a small town 1950′s sort of way.
The girl and I are back in good old NYC. In a way it’s nice to be home, back to our own apartment and beds and what not, and yet in another way lounging on the beach with a fruity rum-based drink is nice too.
We got down to FL last Tuesday night and spent Wednesday just sort of getting ready for our trip and the wedding and everything. Thursday we all went down to a hotel 15 minutes or so from the cruise terminal. A good number of Meg’s family was there and after spending the afternoon lounging by the pool, we had a pre-wedding dinner. Dinner went fine, if not a little over the top with the amount of drinking some people did (not me, but a number of the bride and grooms college and work friends were there).
Then in the morning we all piled in the hotel shuttle and headed down to the cruise ship. The women folk were all carrying their wedding clothing, but being a guy I just put on my shirt, pants, and sandals, and was ready to go. We were able to check in and get on the ship earlier then the other people on the cruise, but they didn’t have most of our rooms ready yet so while the women folk all went to get dressed and made up, I toured the ship a bit and went to get me some free food up in the cafe. The wedding it self started around 1 and was a nice little ceremony. Everyone kept asking Meg and I when it was going to be our turn and if we have a date yet and what not. (No we don’t, pleas stop asking) Though we did get a number of ideas of places and times for the wedding from her various family members, all we know for sure is that it won’t be in FL in August, definitely some place a bit cooler.
We had a bit of drama post wedding when Meg’s grandmother had to be taken to the medical center when she near collapsed right after the ceremony. Turns out the tiredness and what not she had been feeling wasn’t just from planning the wedding and getting all the stuff together, but rather from a 104 fever and a kidney infection. They gave her some IV antibiotics and she was fine in a few hours and was able to stay and enjoy the cruise. Even with that the reception was still nice (Open bar), but not just open but the servers were just about forcing the free drinks into your hand if they saw you with out one. Not that I was complaining.
With the wedding over the rest of the cruise was ours to enjoy. We did the usual cruise stuff: ate too much too often, lounged in the sun, drank. The ship had two ports of call Nassau and Coco Cay (the private island owned by the cruise line). Nassau was only so-so this time, we shopped a little but neither of us were were up to the hassle of dealing with people harassing you every 2 minutes to sell yah stuff so we went back early and enjoyed the near empty ship’s pool. Coco Cay was really nice. It’s just a tiny speck in the ocean. They have different water activities you can do there but we opted for the “chair in the shade” activity with periodic trips 20 feet down the beach into the ocean to cool off. I really would of liked to spend way more time there than we got to but ah well. One funny thing from the island was lunch. They had simple, but really good BBQ stuff, burgers and dogs and such. Well I am heading to find a picnic table with my burger and dog and next thing I know *BAM* a damned sea gull swoops down and steals my hot dog right off my plate, leaving the bun behind. Damned birds! Meg, who sees all birds as evil thought it was mighty amusing.
All in all we had a lot of fun, though we both agree we liked our cruise last year a bit better. Just though there was better food and entertainment on Carnival.
The funniest part of the whole trip was on the last night when Meg’s sister and new brother-in-law got on the ships version of the Newly-Wed Show. Now if you know the original show at all they get 3 couples (in this case a newly married one, one that was married 17 years, and one that was married more than 40) and then they separate the husbands and wives and ask each a set of questions which the other partner has to come up with the same answer to. Well they questions tend to be a bit, risque in nature. Normally who would care, its a room full of people you will never see again so you can say just about anything. Sadly for Meg’s sister and brother-in-law they weren’t so lucky. Their audience also had about 30 of their friends and family in it, so you can imagine that could make certain questions a bit harder to answer. One they asked Ralph (the husband) was which member of your wife’s family would you least want to be stuck on a desert island with. Well again with the whole family sitting there in the audience that one could be a bit hard to answer. After a bit of stumbling he finally answered “Meg” and said he only picked her because she had the least ability to exact any revenge on him
Funnily enough when they got Erin back up on stage she was able to match his answer (poor Meg) but it was all in good fun.
We got back to FL Monday morning and got back to Meg’s house around noon. After a quick nap we all went out to see Stardust which was good, though as usual not as good as the book. We flew out this morning on a 6:20 flight and got back here by 9 or so.
Again it’s good to be home, even if I do have to go back to work tomorrow! Now I will finish my show and head to bed, we were up at 4 so I am more then a tad tired by this point.
Finally here is a cute picture of the girl and I from the formal night dinner on the ship:

We are back from the cruise, though still in FL. We fly out tomorrow morning (well it’s only sort of morning in that we have to leave at 4am to catch a 6am back to NYC). Will post a full update when we get back to NYC. But the cruise was fun…and the wedding…was…a wedding.
Ok sleep time now. 4am will be here much too soon.
Today we head down to the hotel where we are staying tonight so we (and by we I mean the women folk) can have more time in the morning to get ready and still get to the boat on time. I won’t have my laptop with me (I may be a huge nerd but even I can go a few days with out internet access while I am on a cruise, plus at $0.75 a minute for internet I would go broke
)
The wedding preparations have been going good, Meg and I are all packed and set to go. We will have a few hours down in Port Canaveral before the pre-weddding dinner tonight and I would LIKE to hit the Kennedy Space Center tour which is all of 10 minutes down the road from where we will be but I don’t know with all the other craziness going on if it will work out. If not the hotel we are at has a killer pool/waterfall resort setup and lounging by the pool for a few hours sounds kind of nice as well.
If all goes well and we don’t get boarded by pirates I will be back Monday with a update and probably several hundred pictures
We are in Florida! Woo! Fight down last night was fine. Meg’s mom picked us up from the airport. I guess we are among the first people to arrive, she has a bunch more to pick up today. Than tomorrow we go down to the hotel near the port where we will do a dinner and hit the lounge at the hotel which is supposed to have karaoke (a scary though). Then in the morning on Friday we all go down to the boat and have the wedding at 11 then we will do the reception in the cruise ship lounge afterwards (open bar! which should make the lifeboat drill later interesting)
After that we are on our own to enjoy the cruise!
Should be a fun if not busy week!
At this time tomorrow the girl and I will be at JFK waiting for our flight down to FL. We are finally attending her sisters wedding (which is on board a cruise ship) and then going on a nice little 4 day Bahamas cruise. After all the drama around passports and parking I can finally relax and begin to enjoy the idea of our little vacation. Granted we were on a cruise last year at this time for the girls graduation, but it’s not like we are complaining much at having to take another one
This time we know what to expect cruise wise and given that everything is planned already by her family we can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Incase you can’t make it out from the picture: “It’s time for hoboes to take over the US government”
T-minus 24 hours and counting »« A little change will do you good…
So we have a big plastic juice bottle that we have been using to save spare pocket change in for a good year to year and a half. Given that it was just about full and that it is almost time for our vacation/wedding/cruise trip to FL I figured it was a good time to cash it in. I have long said that this money will be our drinking money while on the cruise boat. So I took my ten pounds of change down to Commerce bank which has free coin counting machines and dumped it in. Now mind you this is just pennies, nickels, and dimes, our quarters go into the laundry fund. The grand total was 574 dimes, 430 nickels and 1271 pennies, for a grand total of $91.61. Now granted that wont go TOO far on the cruse ship when a pina colada is like 7$ but it’s better than nothing, and really we were gona drink anyway on the boat so really its more like we have an additional $91 worth of booze money now!
