…It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction…

Just got the news today that as of Friday I am being promoted to Criminalist 3! Woo!!! Get to go down to the big NYPD HQ and take part in the ceremony and shake hands with the commissioner and then we get the rest of the day off! I plan to try and drag Meg down to go watch (friends/family are aloud to go).

What is really cool is that today is 4 years to the day that I started work at the NYPD. On this day back in 2004 I was down at One Police Plaza filling out seemingly endless paperwork and what not. How time flies…

Long weekends…nothing better

Normally Sunday night is a tad melancholy given that its back to work the next day, Not that I don’t like work mind you, but more just out of principle of having to get up and do the whole subway thing. Tonight however is nice because thanks to presidents day I get to sleep in tomorrow. No major plans for my free Monday, I would like to of been able to get out and do some photography but the weather report says rain like all day so that doesn’t look too likely. I am hoping that its clear in a few days, we are due a total eclipse of the moon so I may see if I can set up my tripod out back and snag a few LONG exposure shots.

Work has been going alright, in the final stretch of our chemistry training. Last few days we have been learning all about chemical reaction bombs (aka drano bombs, or bottle bombs). Given that they frown on explosions at work we can’t make “real” ones, but we do the reactions in beakers and analyze the results so we know what to look for in real cases. Hopefully with in a month we will be mostly done training and be able to start doing chemical cases. Until then I am happy learning all this new stuff and working in the trace section, it really is interesting work.

On an utterly unrelated note I don’t think I ever mentioned how my sister moved down to Long Island with her BF and they came to visit last weekend. We went to see Juno and have lunch down at Atlas. I really liked the movie, believe it or not, Meg was a bit less impressed but still liked it. I ended up using some of my xmas itunes credits and bought the Juno sound track which has quickly become my favorite new album. Its unusual but I think thats mostly what I like about it, that it’s really different from most of the other stuff in my music collection. If you liked the movie and music I would strongly recommend checking it out.

Well this was my first full day in the lab since Tuesday. In what is a totally unheard of occurrence, I was in court and testified 3 times in the past 4 days. All in different courts for different trials. Mind you its rare to go once a month, let alone 4 days in a row. It was a good experience but did get to be a bit much with all the extra travel. Was back in the lab today doing my training stuff. We are almost done, just a few more weeks barring any more court visits.

On the home front Nippy (the snake) is still alive. Her tail got hurt or something two weeks ago and the tip of it started to get really dark and dry looking, which slowly spread up. Well last Tuesday I got home and found that like 3 inches of it had fallen off (even I will admit…EWWWWW). She then spent a full week in her little cave thing, I just let her be except for the occasional poke to make sure she was still alive. Then I got home today and she was out, had shed, her…er…tail area looks….well it looks freaking/gross/weird but its healing alight and when I gave her some mice she ate them so I guess she will be alright. Which is good for her I suppose because I really don’t have the money to spend on a vet visit for her so she was either going to get better or…not.

Also on the home front the Girl and I played Scrabble last night, we want to try and do a game night at least once a week, and…well she kicked my ass. Beat me by a good 100 points. We have to find some new games that are a bit more even for the two of us. I kill her at chess because shes still learning, and I don’t expect Scrabble to go much better for me next time. We plan to give Killer Bunnies another go, even if it is better with more then 2, and I am on the lookout for a few new card/board games. So far I am thinking Stratego and something like battleship would be fun and I wouldn’t have to be taunted with a certain someone’s superior word skills and how badly they are going to destroy me with their killer word usage.
