Birthday fun!

So today was my 28th Birthday! The girl and I went out for breakfast at the diner and then when we got home she made me my birthday Jello Cheesecake. Mmmmm. My sister Chelsea and her boyfriend came over for the afternoon and we went to see the movie 21 (which was nice mindless entertainment) and then went for dinner at the CA Pizza Kitchen which was good. As a birthday gift Chelsea got me the 15th anniversary “reservoir dogs” box set which comes with the movie and a set of 6 shot glasses with outlines of the characters on them. All in all it was a fun day. After the movie we ate cake and hung out a bit before they had to head out. I also got phone calls from my parents and like all of Meg’s family wishing me a happy birthday.

Well best get going. Sunday night so it’s back to work tomorrow for me and this next week could be a busy one! Well all the weeks at work are busy, but this one could be even more busy then usual I suppose.

We lost nippy this weekend. You can see Meg’s LJ entry for the full story since she wrote it best anyway.
Bye bye Nippy!

Easter wrap-up

Today was back to work. We had a nice visit to CT. Saturday we ended up going out shopping, my parents bought me birthday pants (to replace the ones from the unfortunate jeans incident) and then took the girl and I out to lunch/dinner. One odd/lame thing was after dinner we stopped briefly at Price Chopper so Mom could get some last minute easter dinner stuff. I picked up a few odds and ends my self and when I went though the check out the clerk asked me if I wanted cash back, I figured why not and said I would take 20$. He then said they had a 1$ surcharge for cash back. WTF? Guess I know where I wont be shopping any more when I am back in CT.

Saturday night ABC had on the classic movie The Ten Commandments. We sort of turned it into a Mystery Science Theater 3000 thing by making snide comments on it. We are so going to hell. :)

Sunday Easter dinner was fun, just the 4 of us. We had Ham and potatoes. Then early birthday cheese cake. Mmmm. The big surprise was my Dad’s random present of a wifi detecting t-shirt he saw on thinkgeek. It has a light up panel on the front that glows blue and will change based on how strong the signal is. It is uber cool and geeky. I love it and now have something to wear for Jenns wedding! :)

Since the girl is still off work sick (though feeling much better now) I opted to use some comp time and take today off so we could come up to CT to spend Easter with my parents. We actually drove up yesterday which was nice. Today we drove down to our always favorite place the book barn down in Niantic. No real plans for the rest of today. Tomorrow we are going to do a little shopping and what not. Then Sunday will be Easter lunch/dinner here at my parents house before we head back down to NYC.

Quiet weekend so far

So far this has been a nice and quiet weekend. This past week has been a little crazy work wise, trying to finish up my training and moving into my new desk (someone left so I got to snag their desk, it’s by a window and she even left her cactus for us, my dinosaur models seem to be enjoying it greatly.)

The girl has not been feeling well the last few days so she has been taking it easy. Hope to be all better by next weekend when we head up to CT for Easter with my parents. Though really I think Meg is more excited about seeing the dogs then she is about the Easter dinner :)

Wow this is late for me, I think it’s just about my bed time.

Pants!

So today the plan was to leave work at 2 so I could run down to the Queens county clerks office. The girl and I are going to register for a domestic partnership until we can get married proper, that way she can get on my insurance. For whatever reason you have to pick up the form in person so I left work at 2 as planned, made it to the E train just about 5 seconds too late and watched as the train pulled away. So I walked down the platform a little and noticed my shoe was untied. I walked over to a bench and put my foot up to tie it when I feel cloth ripping. Cringing I lower my foot and check the damage:

Pants

yeah it was that bad. I pulled my coat down as far as I could and do my best to make it back to work where I had my court pants in my locker…lucky for me. Also lucky is that it happened so close to work, if I had already been at the court say or god forbid somewhere in Manhattan I would of been in a world of trouble :)

But pants replaced I went back to the subway, made it to the clerks office, got the form, and made it home. We will both have to go in person once we have it filled out and notarized, to hand it in with out 36$ money order. Then we will be all officially domestic partnered. Doesn’t have ALL the benefits of a marriage but for now it will do…especially given we have done like no planning for the real wedding so far. Not to say we wont but Meg just likes to take her time.

Room in the back

Overheard yesterday on a crowded Q55 bus:

Driver: Please move to the back, if there is enough room for people to sneak in through the back door there must be enough room to stand back there.

I love NYC.

All promoted!

So yesterday was the big promotion ceremony down at 1 Police Plaza. We first got some refreshments and then all filtered down to the big auditorium where we got our official promotion letters and got put in the order we will be having our names read. It really is a lot like a graduation ceremony. They line us up, we walk across the stage, get our certificates while everyone claps. All that is missing is Pomp and Circumstance being played on a cheap sound system.

After the ceremony we posed for some lab group pictures (some of which are sort of funny looking because there were 5 or 6 people with cameras so everyone was looking in a slightly different direction). Meg took the day off of work to come down and watch which she enjoyed. After all the photos and congratulations a good sized group of us all went out to lunch together (Meg tagged along and other then Toms wife, was the only Non-lab person there) but she had a good time, though we did leave a tad early. From visiting with HER family I know what it is like to be at a table with a large group of people you don’t know and how for the outsider it can be a tad boring. So we headed home and relaxed for a few hours, then went out for dinner down at the German restaurant Zum Stammtisch. Dinner was really good, and their german beers were really good too. :)

Today was just taking it easy and enjoying the weekend. I figure I will get in the relaxation while I can. Next week looks to be bust what with trying to finish up some training projects and other work related activities.
