I’m not dead yet!

So this morning I got a call from Meg who sounded quite upset. It seems while she was on her morning walk/jog she tripped on the curb and her I-pod went flying and fell down the sewer grate. Needless to say she was very upset but un-injured at least. Well once I got home we mounted an expedition to the curb and sewer grate. Looking down I was able to see it laying on top of some leaves. I put on some gloves and used a long metal grabber and after a few tries we able to catch the edge of the I-Pod and amazingly lift it back up though the grate. Yay…day saved and all that.

The best part was while I was there laying on the sidewalk with my arm stuck down though the opening of the grate trying to snag the I-Pod some 10 year old’s came out of the little corner store and I herd them asking Meg “Is he dead”. Meg calmly explained what I was doing just as I was able to bring the I-Pod back to the surface and show them that I was in fact NOT dead.

Sagamore Hill

Seeing as today was such a nice day Meg and I decided to take a trip out to Sagamore Hill on Long Island. Sagamore Hill was home to Theodore Roosevelt and his family and was known as “The Summer White House”. The drive out there was nice, made even more so by using the shiny new GPS that Jenn and David got us as an early wedding present. We got to tour the grounds (and saw some wild turkeys) and then do a guided tour of the house. We really had perfect weather for the day and brought sandwiches so we could have a picnic lunch there on the grounds. We originally had though about doing some exploring of the area around Sagamore Hill, like Oyster Bay and what not, but Meg’s allergies were sort of making her head explode so decided to pass on that for this trip, but plan to go back again some time soon.

Mmm…beer…bread

Just got thought with dinner. Ended up making soup tonight and tried a new beer bread recipe which came out really good. (Due to a little mis-communication we ended up with too much beer last weekend for the BBQ in Hartford so we took home the extra hence my desire to find alternate uses for all the beer :) ) The only problem is that I am going to have a LOT of left over soup and bread. I am not used to cooking for 1 any more and with Meg still in Fl looks like I will be eating soup for a day or two.

Didn’t do much exciting today. Tore the bedroom apart to clean it. The sad thing is it doesn’t look THAT different. Most of the cleaning was corralling the dust bunnies llamas that were under the dresser and behind the bed. I think I got black lung disease in the process but the room is mostly dust free now. The trick is going to be trying to keep it that way.

Back to work tomorrow. Though given I will have the room to my self some how I don’t think it will be too bad of a Monday!

Weekend update

First off, an update on the case of the mysterious memory card. On Wednesday afternoon I got a call from someone at Radio City Music Hall. He said that they got my letter and photos and know who the card belongs to. They talked to her and she asks if I could mail it to here there at Radio City. I told them it was no problem and sent it out in the mail on Friday. Score one for my internet geekry/forensic science training!

The rest of this week has been quiet. Meg flew down to Florida on Wednesday to do some wedding prep stuff with her mom, leaving me alone in the apartment. I wish I could say I have been throwing wild parties every night but I still have to go to that pesky thing called a job. The height of excitement is going to be tonight when I can have some nachos and watch a few zombie movies I have been wanting to see (28 weeks later!). Meg is not so much a fan of the zombie genre so it’s a good time to get my living-dead on!

Meg is due back Wednesday, gets in some time in the evening so I will be able to pick her up at the airport. Oddly enough work is going to be just about as quiet at home. Everyone in my room is going to be down in FL them selves for a training class leaving me to tend the fire debris fort all by my self. Let’s just hope the city doesn’t get hit by a serial arsonist this weekend! Hehe.

Wedding is in less then a month now!

Sent out the letter and photos today to the Orchestra. Now I guess it’s just wait and see if anything comes of it.

Playing detective…

Last week a co-worker found a cell phone memory card on the train and since she knew my phone took the same type of card she gave it to me. I took the card home and put it in my card reader and found that it was full of over 150 pictures. Most of them seem to be of a new baby, but with the other usual friends and family shots sprinkled in. Knowing that if I had lost my memory card I would at least like someone to try to get it back to me, and to that end I am playing Internet detective.

Based on what clues I could gather from the pictures the original owner of the card is a woman in her late 20s to early 30s who plays the French Horn and works/worked for The Radio City Orchestra. Unfortunately I have no idea what this persons name is or where they live (Everyone should take a picture holding a big card with their name and address for just such an occasion). After a few days of googling around at home and getting nowhere I tried posting to ask.metafilter.com . Someone recommended just sending a letter with the info I had found, plus copies of a few of the pictures (there are a few of who I think is the cards owner), to the orchestra manager and see if they can be of any help tracking down this woman.

I don’t know if anything will ever come of it but at the very least I will have tried my best to reunite this person with her pictures.
